Charles Freeman has kindly offered to share this extract from his mother's diary with all residents of Earl Soham to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.
He wrote:
Dear Earl Soham Residents.I would like to share with you all my mother’s diary from VE Day. She was living at Worlington Old Hall and my elder sister Mary had been born to her on February 1st. She was back home in March and my father John who had landed on D-day and who had fought his way across France and into Germany was allowed home for eight days to meet his new and first daughter. My mother was masterminding land girls and others to grow crops in the fields around her house. She went on to be President of the Suffolk Red Cross. Also included a letter thanking her for equipment lent to the West Suffolk Hospital for the duration. Who would have predicted that they still need our help.
Good wishes to all on this special day,
Charles Freeman, Oak Farm.
